This is a full-time position with compensation determined based on experience.  We believe in paying our people for their performance.  We offer a highly competitive hourly rate along with a complete benefit package including vacation, personal leave, paid holidays, health insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, 401k, opportunity to purchase company stock etc...  In addition this position will be eligible for annual and monthly bonuses as long as the company is financially successful and the employee performs their job to the highest standard.  This position is located in our office in Glen Allen, VA.  No applicants will be considered to work from home or away from the office.  This position is a 40 hour position working from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Monday-Friday) with a 1 hour non paid lunch each day.  These hours are non-negotiable and you must be able to work these hours.

 

Duties and Responsibilities as Freight Payable Accountant:

 

  • Using the AS/400 system and various Microsoft office programs, you will be printing off all the freight invoices that RIFP receives from trucking vendors who logistically move lumber from mills/reloads to customer destinations.  On average we receive between 70-90 trucking invoices daily.

  • All invoices once printed will be checked and verified that all proper signoffs and approvals are adequate, in order to pay the trucking vendors

  • Manage and solve all freight invoice problems that may arise so that trucking vendors can be paid.  For example if signatures are missing, emailing the appropriate party to obtain signature.  Various other issues which will be part of training.

  • Entering in all approved trucking invoices into the AS/400 Accounts Payable system so that the Accounts Payable manager can pay according to terms. 

  • Work closely with the Accounts Payable manager and Accounts Payable assistant as a team to ensure all work is completed timely.  Also will work with interns during the summer to train them as to what role entails as they assist the administrative department during their internship.

  • Assist Lumber traders and traffic department with any other questions that may arise.

  • Cross-trained at a later point in time to cover another admin employees desk when they go on vacation

  • Backup front desk receptionist at least 1 day a week to cover her breaks

  • Assist in any other additional tasks that President and Controller may ask to be completed

Education and/or Experience:  High School Diploma is required plus 2 years of work experience in similar position; or Associate’s degree from two-year college plus two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.      

 

Earnings Potential:

Hourly rate plus annual bonuses if requirements met.

  • Ability to be self-directed while working under tight deadlines.

  • Ability to cope with change, make decisions and act comfortably with risk and uncertainty.

  • Exceptionally strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and willing to work extra hours as needed to complete tasks.

  • Positive attitude with willingness to learn and be trained on company’s practices and business software is a must for this position. 

  • Must follow company processes and controls in place to ensure operating company stays in full compliance with annual audits. 

  • In addition must have a high level of attention to detail and work well with others.  Fast paced environment with high volume of transactions.

  • Experience using Microsoft Products is required and any experience using Sales Assist and A/S 400 is a plus.
